Title: Bike runs great after being washed...
Post by: MarcusNoer on March 06, 2016, 07:02:15 AM
Hallo people!
I did an amazing discovery with my bike today.

Long story short. two days ago i had my bike inspectet and i passed without any fails! (yaaay :icon_razz:  ) To drive to inspection i had to get trial/temporary (what ever its called) plates. So it was my first chance to really try the bike. It drove only 100km/62MPH and with slow acceleration.

Yesterday i cleaned the carburetors, 1jet clogged and one half clogged. After taking it togehter it sounded better, but still slow acceleration.

Today i gave the motorcycle a rough cleaning with a high presure watter washer, a little bit to rough. I am not sure what happened but i saw smoke comming out between the sillencer and the mid pipe assembly after i cleaned it, i am almost certain that it was not leaking before.

Now the throttle had MUTCH better response and the acceleration was GREAT! If it is incase of the leak in the exhaust, what do i have to adjust to make it drive good then?

(Please take in mind the only test range i have now is the terrace and garden outside the house since its not registred yet   )

Info about the bike.
GS500E 1994
34000km on the clock
Aftermarked parts:
DELO airfilter (I dont know if this one allows more air flow than original??)
Full delkevic exhaust system without DB killer mounted.

What i am supossed to do, to make it run great with a (i asume) exhast thats not leaking.

Hmm. . . that's a bizarre result  . . . could the pipes be partially obstructed in some way?  :dunno_black:
Could there have been crud somewhere in the mix and the wash blasted it loose? :dunno_black:
Did you clean all the springs, sliders, and oil the sliding parts on the exterior of the carbs?

Disclaimer: I'm a complete noob, so I'm in no way a reliable mechanic. . .

It is weird!
I only took the bottom off, where the jets are and cleaned all the jets and mixture jets and in all holes with carburetor cleaner, and after i blasted it in all holes with compressed air with gasoline.

The exhaust is new so i dont see how it should be blocked already :S

Water got into a non sealed/leaky/pinholed carb boot! .. stopped air leak temporary maybe?

High pressure water gets into all sorts of places a garden hose won't!

Like wheel and suspension bearings, into the frame itself, engine breathers, chain pins, tyre valves, indicator and headlamp/tail lenses, headstock bearings, cables and linkages, electrical connectors, plug caps, steering locks, instruments......etc etc  :dunno_black:

Avoid pressure waters.  :nono:

That sounds like the only thing that could make sense.
I have remounted the exhaust so that its not leaking.

Tomorrow i will pick up a new license plate, and hopefully it will run great still, and everything else will remain mistery.  :thumb:

It remains a mistery.
Runs great, took it to work today, 40km total, and have been driving around like 60km after work. So 100km today and it  runs great :)
