Title: Help replacing s muffler?
Post by: Rallyfan on March 22, 2016, 01:39:19 PM
Hello,

My 06 F has an exhaust with a muffler that's held on by two springs. The muffler has been scraped and patched with JBWeld and dented, and it's not very aesthetically pleasing...

Is there a muffler I can use that'd work with the spring hooks? The springs say "Jardine" but I've no idea if the entire setup is that fancy or just the springs... Plus, the muffler is beat up.

I don't wNt to spend $200+ on a muffler.

Advice? TIA.

Or frankly I could get by with a nice shiny strap of metal to cover the ugly part -- like the hanger strap for example. What is this called and/or where can I get one? That's easier and I'd be happy with that.

Do you mean maybe something like this?

They have cheaper ones too without the rubber but I liked this one... it's similar to the one I have on my muffler.

That goes around the muffler itself, not the pipe, right? I think that's what I'm looking for. My muffler is ovoid or oval not round though; I suspect that same site will have an oval hanger too though. Thank you! I'll have a look there.

Yes that goes around the muffler. The link I gave you shows an option for round or oval strap as well as the measurements. Oval is listed as 4" x 5" and the round is 3.5"... oooo I just noticed that it's stainless too  :thumb:

I think this will inexpensively cover the ugly spot, and nobody is going to demand I resign from riding for having a hanger clamp I need only for aesthetics on my muffler, so I should be ok... Thanks!

Awesome!!! I checked ebay first and after searching several different combinations of words (muffler strap, muffler clamp, universal motorcycle muffler hanger, etc) I was baffled (haha get it) at the poor results.

I then checked motosport and was kinda disappointed there too so I looked at bike bandit and found that one. Idk if someone else would have a better idea or if you could find one cheaper but I did try! (with as much time as I had here at work  ;) )

Glad I could help  :D
