Title: Wanted 1992 gas tank
Post by: pdqrunner on April 05, 2016, 03:56:44 AM
I need a gas tank for a 1992 GS500.  I don't care if is the right year or if it is dented.  I just can't handle anymore rusty leaking metal.

Have you thought about doing a tank clean kit? I did one on my 96 when I bought it and it worked great.

Check out "por 15" products I think I paid 50 bucks and the tanks was gleaming after the cleaning process.

I'm in the same boat. Starting to consider investigating the POR-15 option myself, as so far I've had very few results for a replacement. There was a member on here who recently offered to sell one to me, but it would need some touch-ups on the dents, and I'm no expert there. Not sure if he still has it.

I did a por-15 kit on my tank when I bought it (got the bike for 500$ less than asking because it was so rusty) and it worked great. Go for it, solid product and super easy to use.

I've heard good stuff about POR-15 from most who have used it. PO had someone redkote the tank or something, and it was nasty. Ended up just buying a tank on ebay that was in better condition, touched up the paint and did a vinegar soak/rinse on the inside. I didn't feel like going through any more hassle, especially when the liner in my old tank made things worse in the long run, so I just rinsed and filled it up with gas.
