Title: Low idle amd choke issues
Post by: Muppet on April 07, 2016, 01:03:09 AM
Hey guys,

Rider for 5 months, first time poster.

I've got an '09 GS500F and recently I've noticed some minor gripes.

When warmed up the bike will only idle at 1K. I've heard it's meant to be about 1.2K. I've adjusted the idle before but it seems to have gone back down again.

Using the choke on a cold start will only get the bike up to about 3K. My girlfriend has the same bike and hers gets up to 4K.

If I've had the bike running for about 30 seconds (choke on), turning the choke off and then back on again only barely affects the RPM and has on some occasions actually caused the bike to stall.

Given the age of the bike (7 years) and the fact that it had only done about 3,000 KM before I got it I figure that the previous owner had it sitting around for a fair while. With everything I've listed does this sound like it could be something as simple as the carbs needing a clean out?

Or is it nothing at all? Like I said I'm pretty new to riding still and would appreciate any opinions/advice :P

Cheers guys!

Since your girlfriend has the same bike swap bikes on her when she's not looking.  ;)
Just kiddin man, sounds like the carbs could do with a clean. While your there check the plugs for correct mixture and when was the air filter either replaced or cleaned.
