Title: New member saying hello
Post by: Liam77uk on April 11, 2016, 11:03:35 AM
Hi all.. Just picked me up a 2002 Gs.. Im from the Uk, live in Eastbourne, near Brighton.. Looking forward to modding the bike a little, new handlebars, I'm thinking Renthal ultra lows, some progrip grips.. The fork brace, new shock.. K&N replacement filter, considered the lunch box, rejet, but have read that theres a risk with rejetting, don't want to screw up a perfectly working bike to gain a couple more hp.. I understand there's no need to rejet if you're only replacing the current air filter for a K&n one. Also plan to do the fenderectomy  :D

Hello Liam and nice to have ya join the forum!

You'll love the fork brace upgrade... and a fenderectomy was one of the first things I did to my GS when I got it... never regretted it!!

Had to google the renthal ultra lows to see what they were exactly... and they look pretty much identical to the superbike bars. I currently have them on my bike and I do like them!  But am thinking in the future going to something much lower to see how that is.

Good luck with all your mods and feel free to start a project thread and post lots of pics!

Couple of questions concerning the mods I intend to do.. When changing over the handlebars to say the Renthal, will I have to drill holes for the switches etc to fit correctly?

I was thinking of changing the standard rear shock to the Katana one, but upon further reading, it appears that this isn't advised for someone of my weight, 150lbs / 11 stone... That perhaps a post 2009 R6 one would be better, is this other people's experience?... Don't appear to be many R6 shocks for sale. Given my weight, is this an unnecessary mod?

Am I correct in thinking a Rejet isn't necessary when doing a simple K&n air filter change?
