Title: i need some help :( power issue!
Post by: dowdy80 on April 26, 2016, 02:15:02 PM
on my gs500 everything is now working as it should but 1 thing isn't, i have power from the battery, all lights and such work yet when i start the bike its as if my speedo isn't getting enough power and just flickers, yet when i stop the engine, the speedo reboots? im thinking its the alternator not putting out enough juice, any ideas?

Try powering the speedo directly from the battery.

The GS has a basic electrical system,so u could be getting interference in the system.See if it works first by taking power(via external wires) straight from the battery to the speedo.IF that works look at a proper wiring diagram and see where u can tap into(if possible u don't want a seperate on/off switch for the speedo)............perhaps some kind of filter.

On a relay, perhaps?

But your battery voltage is dropping below "ideal" when using the starter motor - which isn't abnormal. Just guessingat the numbers here, but if an aaftermarket gauge needs at least 12v for operation and your voltage drops to 11v on startup.... it's going to flicker and reset.
