Last night I went to go jump on the bike and go to a mate's plate. Put the key in, turn it to on and then put the coke on. Press the ignition, it starts up and everything seems fine. While the coke is on it stays on 3k for like 30 seconds then it dropped down to 1 and turned off, so I try again. Now, the choke doesn't even help it stay at 3k, it goes up to like one on its own then turns off, with my help it can stay at higher revs but that doesn't make a difference cause it just dies. Also, there is a decently strong smell of fuel, so that's kind of scaring me haha, don't really want an explosion.
Any help would be appreciated, cheers.
EDIT: Also, if this makes a difference...I filled up with petrol last night as I ran out, then immediately took the bike home. If that means anything.
Just went outside again to see what I can do with the bike, there is a lot of smoke coming from exhaust and smoke coming from where the exhaust pipe enters the cylinders. I will try get a picture, but it does start with no choke.
It does idle however, even with no choke.
UPDATE #2: Just took it for a spin around the block since it's idling. It is stuttering very very hard, I can't use my throttle properly as it stutters a lot at like 3k+. It just doesn't go, it goes fine <3k but then you try to twist and nothing.
UPDATE #3: Turns out there was a tiny amount of water in my tank just laying at the bottom. This explains so much. Everytime I'd hit reserve the engine would start underperforming heavily and I wouldn't really think much of it as I am not very mechanically inclined, so I'm just like whatever doesn't affect me much, then my Dad took a look and just unscrewed the carb drainage screw (or whatever it is called) and it turns out there was water inside...a tiny amount. Issues seem to be fixed now, no smoke and no stuttering. Thank you Dad.
EDIT: This has to be the saddest thread on GSTWINS. lmao
Such a lonely thread. Sorry for leaving you alone to sort out your bike. I'm glad you found a solution, even without the experts here at to get you running around checking this and that :)

Sometimes you gotta do stuff on your own, I like troubleshooting so it was fun :)
But yeh, out of all things....water in the tank..

How much water was it?
Barely 4 hours starting 4:41 am - that's nothing, on some forums they only post 1-2 a day - all included.
Cool.

An amount which would only be used when the tank was nearlly empty, a very small amount. Bled it til there was only petrol coming out and it didn't take long.
Is it an 01 or later carb ?
I've got a sneaking suspicion that those are more susceptible to even a little water, like from overnight condensation type.
My 95 with an 01-02 set is pretty finicky as well.
Cool.

It is an 02 stock gs500. I figured it was condensation, the amount of water in it seemed like it had to be since it was so small. My father thought the same as well. Problem fixed now, hopefully.
