Title: Can i use these brake pads?
Post by: cheelees on May 05, 2016, 06:34:18 AM
Hey guys, i've been hearing some squealing coming from my rear brakes lately, and I suspect I may need to replace the brake pads; something i'm going to check out tomorrow. If I do need to replace them, are the brake pads listed here:http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/parts-and-servicing/motorcycle-parts/brake-pads.aspx?id=1021528 (http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/parts-and-servicing/motorcycle-parts/brake-pads.aspx?id=1021528) able to be used on my bike? Or should I head to my local dealership.

Thanks!

That's a huge list of pads to dig thru...... if you find ones listed to work with the GS500, I'd imagine they would work.

Based on the fitment PDF (which you could have read as easily as us), you need the VD-327JL pads for the rear. I did not see that model of pad listed on the website you linked to.

Also worth noting that the GS is known to have squeaky rear brakes, so its possible your pads are fine.

The squeak is an optional extra! Lol. .. you must have the "limited edition"  ;)

Replacing pads can help, check the rotors for 'within spec' also...

I seem to remember though from this forum that possibly the best solution is a little smear of copper grease between the back of the pad and the thin backing plate. . Which IS necessary! .. works quite well..   it's mostly that thin plate which vibrates and squeals!
