So I am trying to go with the Dualsport tire only because my experience with them have been good. Plus, I think they look great especially for the scrambler project I am trying to do. That being said I found a Shinko combo and im a little confused with the sizes. I have 2 options.
1- Front 130/80-17
Rear 130/80-17
or
2- Front 130/80-17
Rear 140/80-17
If any of these combos do work with the stock wheels, will I lose steering significantly? It will be more of a weekend bike than anything. No speed demon or cornering fanatic. Thoughts?
Thank you
That 130 up front would probably be REALLY scary (and tough to fit). Going from a 110/70 to a 130/80 would put so much pressure on the sidewalls that there's a possibility it could break the bead. Even if it fits between the forks, it definitely won't fit under the stock fender.
Possible? Sure. Fun or safe? That's very debatable.

Either of those combos will fit the stock wheels but like Rich said the 130/80 won't fit under the front fender or under the fork brace, mods would be required. Actually the stock front wheel size is a proper fit for both the stock 110/70 and a 130/80 tire.
As far as handling goes I found both the 110/70 and 110/80 front tires felt about the same and a little better than the 120/70 I ran did but the difference was small. Wouldn't suggest a 130/80 front for the mountain twisties but for normal local riding I don't see any big problems with it.

I just realized i set my numbers wrong for the front tire. I was mostly concerned about the back!
I have a 140/80 rear tire on my GS and I love it. That's all I can really say :embarassed:
