Hi all hope this is allowed on here if not I apologise but today I made the move from my gs 500 (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160507/befac3abd0e06c8e14208f790c4995bf.jpg)
To my new sv650s
(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160507/f4660c3d57a034a16aefbc07cf9adb2b.jpg)
The sv had 7600 genuine miles on full service history has been upgraded with heated grips iridium screen R&G crash protectors and bobbins and carbon fibre rear hugger everything else is standard and I love it!! It's brilliant fun to ride I'm gonna spend all day tomorrow cleaning and polishing it to my spec haha
What's all your thoughts lads 😊

SV - Great little bike in my opinion, particularly that model. Cool colour that blue too, goodonya.
Were you the one saying you just got your GS set up to just how you like it, too?
Not everyone upgrades, but it seems like most people "graduate" from the little GS and move on to more modern machines. I've always liked the SV. Seat looks a lot more comfortable.
Tidy for a 16 year old, how much? around £1200?
Please don't say its still on the original tyres :o
I like that chain adjustment idea on the swinging arm.

I paid 1700 for it maybe a little high I know but it was from a dealership.
As for original tyres I can only assume they are as the bike has every invoice it's ever had for it and there is no invoice for tyres so maybe original ones

Yeah that's me pal just got it how I liked it but I've had it 3 years are always wanted and sv for as long as I can remember and this one came up in my price range and very good condition, I've still got my gs though at the moment but think my dads gonna buy it from as so if I ever fancy a blast on it I will 👌
I think £1700 is right at the top for its age but considering the condition, originality, mileage and documented history its fair. I assume if its come from a dealer there will be some warranty.
It was MOT`d in April with advisories for a tight chain and an oil leak. It had an advisory for the rear tyre in May `11 so its safe to assume it was replaced around this time but the front could still be the original and maybe 17/18 years old, I would check the date and be thinking of changing it if its more than 5/6 years old. No mention of brake hoses so safe to assume they are all ok.
MOT check.. https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ ...just punch in your reg no and the make :thumb:
Tyre date codes.. http://www.chaparral-racing.com/blog/2013/01/16/tech-tips-read-motorcycle-tire-date-codes/
I was wondering there how you new all this haha I didn't realise you could do these checks. Yeah the oil leak I've sorted it was a couple loose bolts and it's fine now and I'm gonna replace the chain anyway but it's sorted now, yeah a front tyre change could be a good idea like you say it will be old, brakes are awesome stops on a penny but gonna change them to braided eventually anyway

I sold my 02 SV for $3400 in 2006. The genius crashed it on the test drive. He had paid me, so, he had to take it.
Maybe your price is fine.
Cool.
Buddha.
Love it. If I ever get the upgrade bug, the first bikes I'll look at will be SV's
So more pics after a auto glym detail today 😊(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/cb6a3b31670d33fb7c685b9c3c2c94f5.jpg)

Am considering this change as well, either a brand new SV650 or a low mileage SV1000.. I've sat and did the maths i can rebuild nut and bolt, one of my GS500's with a few slight modifications. i.e. lunchbox filter, stainless exhaust, uprated shocks n forks. or put the same cash into a good low miles SV1000 with service history and must be mint. or a brand new SV650.
When it comes down to it there isn't gonna be a huge diff in price between a clean SV1000, or rebuilding the GS. and no matter how i improved the GS it will still be a a little cramped and a lot slower and worth less after it all than the SV.
So i would really like a honest opinion of the differences, I've even considered a yam MT07, or a Honda Firestorm as alternatives to the SV route. I seem to spend more time fixing the GS's than riding them. so will keep an eye on this post.
Hi pal, I done most of the upgrades your thinking for your gs and don't get me wrong mine was a cracking little bike when I done it and it never let me down once, but I never really felt I had that connection with it but the sv on the other 😍........it's wicked it's exactly what I've been wanting,
I've had many a fun day out on the gs but I can see me having more on my new toy.
I can't say what you should do, but I will say that from my point of view, I feel like I maybe spent a bit too much money on something that I don't think I'll get a massive return on when I come to sell it, because to get it the way I wanted including the bike I probably spent a total of around 1000-1200 pound, I mean I had it 3 years and it got loads done mechanically which pumped the bill up but when you look what you can get for 1200 there's a lot out there if you know. What I mean.
I will however keep you updated with the sv I've only ridden it from the dealership to home so not had much a chance to really ride it yet but using it for work all this week and then ride out in Sunday so will get a better feel for what it's like.
Hope my advice helps you in your decision pal 👍
Ps the sv 1000 is a monster my mate has one and the rear wheel has spent more time on the road than the front one hahaha

Upgrade? Blasphemy
Looks pretty sharp!! I like the blue color too :bstar:
I have a windscreen in that same color for my gixxer fairing on my gs that I'll put on some day.
Enjoy your new wheels 8)
Very nice! That's a beautiful bike. My brother has the same model SV, but yours is in much better shape. He paid $1,650 for it last fall. I think you got a fair deal. Enjoy your new toy, and be safe out there!
Thanks for all your comments 😊 pleased with the amount of love the bikes getting 😊 gonna give it a service and the weekend new oil filters and plugs it's been sat right through the winter with the previous owner so I just wanna do it for piece of mind plus I always do it with anything a buy just so I know it's been done

I kept my Wee Strom (same awesome engine, but more flywheel and less cam) 10 years, way longer than any other of the 29 bikes I have owned, mostly because of the absolute linear power delivery of the Suzuki 90 Deg V-Twin....Enjoy :thumb:
im going for a bandit 1200 when the prices drop in the winter
i to just got a sv650s its an 03 model with full body kit. i still ride my 500 both bikes are a blast to ride i dont think i will ever be able to part with me 500 though after all the work i did repainting her and making her my special bike
love your sv.

Thanks man I certainly will 😊. Yeah there's something about a twin that I just love any twin for that matter, slot of my pals don't really like them they prefer there in-line 4 because they say the tennis are to lumpy running but I say different I just love the torque you get from a twin my gs kept up with my mates old cbr of line he got me too end like but Upto 100 it was pretty neck and neck

Bandits are very good bikes 👌, I was gonna get a bandit 600 once over but everyone round my area has one so didn't wanna be a sheep haha

Thank you mate 😊, I do like the fully faired newer Sv they look very sporty looking, yeah I'm the same with my Gs mate, I've still got mine it's up at my mam n dads at the moment because I think my dad wants it because he put as much work into it as I did, like you say it's that not being able to part with it, mine does still have a hold over me because of the time spent making it my own and painting it up and stuff, and I will probably still have a blast out on it now and then, least if it goes to my dad I know it's gonna get looked after and not abused seeing all my work go to waste like.
Don't not give it to dad!
I let my kid sell his, and I just wish I'd got it off him! (Regrets I've had a few!)
Oh no I'm not giving it to him he's buying it from me mate. I know where you coming from like but me old man hasn't had a bike on the road in 15-20 years and he has put a crap load of time into the mechanical side with me so he said to me the other day do not sell that bike to anyone but me, so hopefully he won't just sell it on........I hope anyway

So i would really like a honest opinion of the differences, I've even considered a yam MT07, or a Honda Firestorm as alternatives to the SV...
Take a look at Honda CB500s as well. I "upgraded" to one and its basically just a modern GS500 that's more comfortable, more powerful, and also a Honda instead.
There's a place in my heart for the GS, but my CB is everything my GS was and more!
My friend has a MT07. It's a monster of a bike! Beautiful engine in there, tons of torque! Stock seat is awful. Needs a corbin for sure. Spend over an hour in the saddle and your bum gets nice and sore...
Looks aggressive as hell, hooligan power band, and good fuel economy to boot. Great little commuter and weekend fun. Not good for extended rides or highway, though.
The CB by comparison is a lot more modest. Power is there but you need to coax it, but it rides a lot smoother and feels more benign. Also is straight up more comfortable. Won't give your that sly grin like the MT will, but will make for an enjoyable ride none the less.
Absolutely marvellous.........cylinder head gasket has gone on the sv on the front cylinder after only doing 70 mile on it!!! Absolutely gutted, going back to dealer tomorrow because surely they should have to fix it or hell with costs of fixing it with selling a bike that's obviously not useable for purpose, I've only had it a week like I'm devastated that's the head gasket gone on the car and the bike now........never had any problems with the gs!
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Had that happen on a little dirt bike years ago. They blustered and tried to fob me off..
Stick to your claim if they mess you about!!
So be very polite but firm as granite !! :thumb:
Totally mate well I took the bike back to dealer tiday and they agreed to fix it so bonus there! They don't think it's head gasket them selves but I'm not convinced because water doesn't go into oil for no reason.
But least on the plus side it's getting sorted

Crappy to see the gasket went, glad its getting fixed for you, the more i look, the more I'm leaning towards a SV (naked not S) or the MT07, the GS with the dropped bars is buggering up my bike, a ride of a hr and i need lifted off the bike nearly. besides i want something totally reliable to do big distances on, and a near 25yo bike isn't cutting it anymore.
I like the look of the MT07 Moto cage, but the comments in some post about the seat.. and the SV is proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, like the GS its a bit of a everyman machine, cheap, reliable, and can be modded to do whatever you like, for me that will be touring, so full set of hard luggage, a few sensible mods to the suspension. and a few aftermarket goodies, exhaust, hugger, bellypan etc. and some fog/daylight lights (i have them already)
Its a shame most on here are in the USA i will have some tasty GS parts to sell soon, as i have a complete machine and one i broke for spares. so there is 2 complete fairings, 2 new screens, headlights for both type of TCP fairing old on GS's in the UK/Europe (the twin round lamps and the later projector single unit type) also a belly pan kit etc and every other ancillary part for a GS.spare crankcases etc. But if your in the UK i will be looking to shift this stuff later in the year.

Hey man just seen this comment now.
The sv has now been fixed so all is well again 😊. A lot of people I know and people from this forum and others that I am on seem to make the move to Mt-07, I'll be Honestly can't say I've ever seen a one haha, but I do love my sv I've always wanted one for ages so I am pretty over the moon now that I am an owner of a one.
The naked sv with all the hard panniers and stuff on would be a good touring bike I would say, especially if you had a comfy set of renthal bars on and stuff. And like you say you can put plenty of modifications on them. I'm thinking of putting twin high level vans on mine 😏. Some fog lights like you say would be a nice modification
Yeah I may be interested in the gs parts mate I am in the uk 😁. My dad has got the gs now but he's always after any spares he will be really interested in the belly pan kit so keep me posted mate 👍
Hey fellow bikers 😊 I'm going to be doing a few jobs on the sv whilst I'm off work, jobs include fitting a restrictor kit changing fork seals and oil, and servicing the brakes you know fresh fluid and stuff, most of the jobs are no bother I've done them all before however I've never done forks before has anyone any advice for changing the fork oil?? I've got the Haynes to hand like but sometimes they over complicate stuff so just after any info you's may have with helping do the job 😊 cheers in advance guys and gals

Got everything all done on the sv that I needed too today, fork oil changed and restrictor kit fitted, restrictor has tamed the beast quiet a bit, on the same stretch of road I used to be able to get 125mph before letting off now I only got Upto 105mph and let off but was ran out of road so maybe not a bad thing really hahaha on a light note though the front end feels mint just wanna do my brakes now change the fluid and stuff no pics of the updates because half way through the jobs my little girl took badly and had to rush her off to A&E so my father in law finished the bike off for me so that was good of him 😊

Cerberus they are great bikes the sv and as far as seats go mine is super soft, the only thing I am looking at changing is handles on it I am 5" 10' and the bike feels like it wants to be more up right sitting but bars are very low so my shoulders get very sore after 2 hours of riding ( when I ride it is usually a 4-5 hour days worth a riding) but simple fix I feel it will be . And sorry to hear your sv had to be fixed already glade to hear they finished it for you nath
Thanks man yeah I was gutted when it is to go back to dealer but luckily was just a simple fix and nothing serious.....phew! Just to follow on what you were saying about the bars I did see a set of raised clip ins available for the sv on eBay they where like a 3 inch rise on the standard, if I see them I'll send you a link 👍
