I have a 2004 suzuki gs500f, about 11,000 miles.
My issue is that my bike will not start at all. I ran it a few weeks ago and took it out for a ride and this past week I attempted to start it and ..nothing. Engine will not turn, no clicking, no noise whatsoever.
I charged battery on battery maintainer inside the house and charges to about 12.5v. When I place on bike and attempt to start it drops below 12v and then slowly increases after releasing the ignition and turning the key off.
My battery is only 2 years old, and I have always kept it charging during winter months on a battery maintainer.
Today I check the clutch switch near the left handle and everything checked out okay (even tried jumping a wire between the two connections). I check the starter relay and it measured 4 ohms (the owners manual states between 3-5 ohms).
I am thinking it might be the killswitch, but how would I check? Any suggestions on what it could be or where and how I should trouble shoot would be great
I suggest........you get the battery load tested :thumb:

Battery charged on battery maintainer at 13.5v after a few seconds it dips to 13.3/.2
When placed on motorcycle after a bit its about 12.5 and when attempting to start it rapidly drops to 11.8/.9 ish. When letting the battery sit for a few seconds after trying to start it, the battery slowly increases back up.
I thought about replacing the battery but I would think the engine would attempt to turn over or make that clicking noise..?
Porta people think that.
What sledge said. Then most likely a new battery, get an Agm one!

Sorry dude it looks like you were wrong. Bought a new battery and having the same issue. Porta people think that.
Porta? Bloody phone... meant lotta! Lol. .
Load test old battery?
And looking at your earlier queries, you check the various switches and circuits with a multi meter, referencing wire colours from a wiring diagram.
Also, when you go to start the bike with either battery at the moment, lights turn on when you turn the key? If not then your fuse is blown..
.... bike in neutral? Especially if you are sitting on it with the stand up!
Both terminals have cables tightened down securely?
Despite the number of wires the bike is a fairly simple harness, a few safety switches and a few connector plugs bring it all together.... finding the dead patch just requires some quiet time and checking methodically along the circuits involved with starting engine.
On my bike I have had to replace a couple connector plugs that live under the tank and relatively near the heat from engine, it's not a common fault and was tricky to spot melted wires almost inside the plug ends.. but the steady testing and checking off.. paid off!
Plus if you end up having to go through it all you do gain a better idea of how it's all tied in!
Good luck with your find and fix! :thumb:
I would have got it tested before coughing up for a new one but hey-ho :dunno_black:
Check the 20amp fuse. Make sure you're checking the one under the cap and not the spare fuse.
