Title: mileage
Post by: gk on May 22, 2016, 07:46:14 AM
Hello all I'm new to this and is the first time I've actually signed up for anything like this. We'll,  I had to do it cause I love my 2005 suzukigs500f! I'm an experienced rider but absolutely love this machine. I've had zx6rs,gixxer1000s,cruisers, dual sports but love this one cause I don't ride everyday and don't feel obligated to ride it when it sits there for a week or two like my 8k gixxer I owned. I got this one for a steal ($1600) two years ago with only 5k on the odometer. I've had a couple tempting offers but didn't take the bait lol. Actually last week a guy offered me 2k but I declined. It's just that it's the perfect bike for me. Fun to ride, cheap to own and don't have a lot invested in it but Im interstellar to see pics of other riders gstwins and how many miles you've ridden them! Well let's start with mine!

Wow that's a lot! I only have 15k on mine but 10k in two years isn't too bad. I was going to post pics but it said my files were too big.

I'd post pictures of my GS...but since it is almost entirely stock...it would look exactly the same as every other picture of a GS500F.  (OK I did change the handlebars).

Plenty of people have gotten 100,000 miles out of a GS500!!  So I figure mine is "middle aged".  But I got an additional bike (not gs) over the winter, and tend to ride that one more now, so the GS should last me many years to come!

2006 with 26k miles. It's going to be on the center stand for another week while I give it a good once-over. Engine's been running a little iffy but maybe that's to do with the valves which are probably overdue for adjustment. I haven't had it for very long but it needs some TLC.

After 4 Hondas I bought my 97 GS new in March of 99 and it was totaled in July of 03 with 80k miles on it.  Replaced it with my 02 GS bought with about 4k miles on it and parked it after my 82nd birthday in August of 14 with over 100k miles on it.

And how many of those miles where with Mobile 1 Synthetic? wasn't it 40K or 50K? I distinctly remember somebody here saying, your wasting your money with synthetics, his name was one...No 2 something?

I was using synthetic but my bike was using too much oil so I switched to regular diesel oil and yes I said diesel oil. Lol

Mine have never been adjusted as far as I know and cranks up pretty easily.

Welcome to the forum gk and I'm glad you love your GS  :D

I bought my '98 in January 2012... has 18k on it now and I can't remember how many miles it had when I bought it  :icon_rolleyes:

I love it and I haven't had really any problems with it except the forks (but when I bought the bike they were bent so... yeah)

Old pic from last summer, I have a different front fender on there now and since then the center stand has been painted.

37,000 on mine (23,000 by me). I've had my fair share of issues.

Bad ignition pickup
Sheared starter clutch bolts
Goats (Probably because of starter clutch)
Faulty Petcock
Bad fork seals
Bad cam chain tensioner
Crank seal leak
Leak around the clutch side engine gasket
Broken speedometer cable

Last 550 mile trip I burned a full quart of oil. Granted, I did the whole thing at 75 MPH with side and top cases and synthetic oil.

That's in addition to all the normal wear parts (do fork seals count?) and maintenance. Plus I've messed up a bunch of stuff by crashing the bike, being run over by a jeep wrangler or being mechanically incompetent. Yet the bike is still here and I'm prepping it for a 3,500 mile trip this September.

Thanks showbiz! Nice bike :) . Mine is the fairing model and ppl don't know what I'm riding lol. I stay way down in Bama and even the winters it warms up to the 50s so it's never too far away from riding weather:)

Wow! Your luck with bikes sounds like my luck with cars! Lol I had to finally break down and buy a new car tho.
