hey peeps

storytime

or skip to the end        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WH3bPeBX1c

so iv been collecting gs series suzukies for a while now. i have 3 gs 500e. a gs 425 and a gs 450.
out of all of them i do have one thats my baby.
shes a 1995 gs500e (with a 96 head)
i had to do shims last year and found that my valves where near the end of their service life so i decided the only logicle thing to do was replace the head (yes yes i know)
so seeing as i had a spare head sitting around i popped in some nice shiny new valves and stem seals, gasflowed it and had blueprinting done.
the tear down began on a friday after work and went fairly smoothly untill i found that my cam chain was past its service length... considering that the bike is on 90 000 km i wasnt suprised
so a new cam chain was fitted along with the rear slip guide and a new tentioner.... it didnt "need" a tentioner but i decided rather safe than sorry.
so with all that done came the next headach.... my timing was always one tooth out on the exhaust cam.... some nana had set it wrong so when i tried to line up all the marks nothing lined up.
i endid up advancing the exhaust cam one tooth and presto... my timing lined up perfectly.
so thats the end of my head overhaul
next was the gearbox....
my drive seal was leaking rather badly so it required me to strip the bottem end to change it.
while i had it apart i replaced the entire gearbox due to it sometimes pretending to be a 5 speed, the selector drum and forks have also been changed.
so once i had it all back together i decided the wiring was a bit tatty and promptly got rid of every single bit of it, i then roped a unsuspecting friend into helping me build my new harness and in only 3 days we had it done, complete with new digital clocks and keyless entry.

the next thing on my list is to swop the stock swingarm for a meguelli 250rr swingarm. but thats not happning anytime soon

heres the vid of my baby, enjoy
