Title: Question about pop on startup
Post by: SS Adrenaline on May 26, 2016, 09:11:57 AM
Hey guys.  Its been a while since I've been here.  I went through some shaZam! and haven't ridden in a while.  I just completed all the changes listed in my profile.
The bike runs good.  Question is that I get a pop on the right cylinder when starting cold with choke on..  I can see a bit of air coming through the airbox when it pops so I know which cylinder this is occurring on.  Does this mean its getting too much or too little fuel?  Should I change the Air screw setting? The pop seems like when there is a air leak. Revs up, pops then revs go down.
This symptom goes away once engine is warmed up.  Plugs look good.
Any ideas?

Can't help with the pop, but I want to see your custom storage  :thumb:

If I'm correct if you spray carb cleaner on the carbs where you think there is a leak the revs will shoot up. Someone may want to check me on that.

Don't use carb cleaner, it'll break down rubber parts (like the intake boots you don't want leaking). Starter fluid works fine.

Really?  What about the rubber parts that are inside of the carbs that you use carb cleaner to clean?

Even so, the stuff evaporates so darn fast I doubt it'll do much harm being sprayed lightly on/near the boots.  Soaking the boots in it might be another story...

That's just what I've read, take gaskets and washers out first because it deteriorates rubber. Wouldn't surprise me since the stuff strips metal.

Probably lean, but how can you see that its the right cyl ? Is the airbox on but you have no filter ?
You could also have a tight valve or some other issue, bad spark, something small too, like floats too high, or too low etc etc.

Cool.

After writing a huge diatribe on carb cleaner I realized I was hijacking the original poster's thread.  So I moved my rantings over to the Odds and Ends section.

So the carb has just been cleaned so no cleaner is needed in the gas.
I know its the right side because I can see a small blast of air come through the lunch box.
The valves were adjusted within tolerance. maybe I will turn up the fuel screw for that side and see what happens..lol
