Nearly all 89-2 is mechanically same. Non oil cooler models.
04-09 also is the same and a nice upgrade, oil cooler is a big +.
You just have minor piddleances like the ignition advancer and an electronic tach to worry about. No biggie.
Cool.

take what buddha said as gospel. anyhoo he is 100% correct. i rode a non oil cooler gs (a 97) in military funeral escorts. they do NOT like slow formation riding. i had to break formation and pull off road. she was HOT. HAD TO ADD MORE oil but couldnt open cap it would burn my fingers. thank god i brought a pair of pliers as well for this reason. she cooled off when i rode to catch back up with the rest of the bikes 150+. anyhoo look for an oil cooler engine. you wont regret it. but as buddha said ANY gs engine will fit. and work. but the oil cooler engine is the best bet.
