Hi, I'm having pretty bad issues with wind on my K5 GS 500 F. I'm on the stock windshield, but Im considering either upgrading the entine windshield, or pay less than half the price to just get a windshield deflector.
I'm in Denmark, so unfortunately buying from US is not an option because of import taxes and shipping, also there's not really a cheap source for aftermarket GS500F windshields in Europe. So before I place an order on a deflector, I'd love to hear a few words from any of you who might have tried it on the stock screen.
I like to sit on the most front part of my seat, and I'm 6 feet tall.

I don't have any experience with windshields - I've managed to deflect all of them away from my motorcycle.
I've got a zero g touring screen in place of the stock one, it does lift the helmet buffering area a little higher, with a bit of searching around you might find a decent second hand one!?

Palm, if you are looking for a small windshield extension, I think I saw some DIY's over on ADVRider. Of course, they aren't for the GS500 but it's the same idea.
Are you trying to fix wind noise or the force of the blast on your body?
For noise, I find that the stock shield is best because it keeps the blast below the bottom of the helmet. Until you get to something big enough to force the wind above your visor you will only make the perceived wind noise worse.
For wind blast (long distance fatigue and cold weather riding) a clip on deflector like what MRA, Hepco Becker, or Laminar Lip offer can only help. Just don't expect it to lower the wind noise. They will likely send turbulent air right in to the bottom of your helmet.
I like to ride when its cold out in the northwest US and I am also very annoyed by wind noise. I finally spent the big bucks and bought a Madstad Engineering solution with their largest clear shield. Now I can ride with my visor up at 65 mph. The giant screen is not the right solution for everyone but it did wonders for my enjoyment of long distance touring.
