Title: Missed Connection: Please respond!!!!
Post by: Flameeater on June 23, 2016, 08:39:02 PM
I don't know who you are, but we seem to have a bit in common, a bike. A bike that you used to own, I now own. My friend, we have shared ass space, and that is really something special. So please, I need help... I need to know.... What the hell were you doing?!?! I just don't understand. Is it normal to use medical tape to seal fuel and vacuum leaks where you are from? Does your indigenous tribe from Where-Eversville USA not understand that exhaust pipes need gaskets, and bolts? What were you doing with the carbs? Were you attempting to disassemble them while they remained on the bike? Was the second stripped out screw head not enough? Where I come from that is often times considered a clue. I am so confused.

I know I will probably never meet you so I have opted to come here for some advice. To those knowledgeable about the GS500F 2005 model, there is a plastic piece on the top of the carbs for the vacuum hose to go onto. What is this piece called and where can I purchase a new one? I will be searching for a vacuum and fuel hose diagram when I get to that point, but if one of you happens to have one handy I would greatly appreciate it.

Not sure if this is the same part you're talking about but a member of this site 3D printed a plastic bit from the top of the carbs.

He might be able to steer you in the direction of ordering a printed part of your own from Shapeways.  Buying brand new components for your carbs can sometimes be harsh on the wallet.  eBay is a good source of used carb components if you can figure out the part number of what you want.

It appears to be the plastic cover on part 32 of the bike bandit diagram. Apparently not sold seperatly. I may look on ebay for stuff. Is the Shapeways parts printed and shipped or am I just buying the plans?

P.S. I am really having a time with these verification questions...

The lift control module is only sold as part of the carb cover, so you're correct in that regard.

My suggestion would be to take a look at ebay and see if you can get some parts cheaply that way. The carb covers are interchangeable between 2004-2009, so you may be able to find a whole cover assembly cheaper than buying a new OEM cover or figuring out how to get the plans/printed part you're after.

Awesome intro thread Flameeater  :icon_lol: and welcome to the forum!

Yeah ebay is certainly worth a look. Also, those verification questions go away after your 5th post  They are meant to keep out spammers and whatnot!!!

Thanks jdoorn !!

Sometimes I don't feel like I can help people much because my bike has been so so so very good to me... haven't had to fix/troubleshoot/etc much on it thankfully!!! But I do read through the threads daily and when there's something I can reply to or help with, I try. If I was a newb (which I was once lol!) I'd hate to think those questions never... ever... ever... went away LOL  :D

When you buy from shape ways they print the part and mail it to you.  If you want the plans (3D model) you can try messaging kapitainkoek.

Thanks for all the help so far guys! As of right now, I have the carbs off the bike. I am attempting a fix to the old cap. What I have done is bought a pack of vacuum hose t connectors from O'Rielly's and sawed a piece off to epoxy onto the cap. I am hoping the epoxy will be strong enough and form a good seal, without clogging the hole. We will see how it goes. I figure I cant make it worse then broke.

Is this part of the emissions crap? If so have people had any luck just removing or blocking them and going on about this thing called life?

If this thing was losing vacuum (like I am sure it was because the PO just wrapped medical tape on it and stuck a hose to it), how bad would this bike run? The reason I ask is because before I tore into it the bike would run, kinda. It would idle only at full choke (with pops and cracks) until I gave it throttle, at which point it would bog down, then rev high and take forever to slow down. Seemed like it was maybe getting too much fuel to me. I pulled the plugs (new NGKs) and they looked excellent. Threw a compression tester on it and it is getting 130 at both cylinders cold (cant warm it up right now).

I took a look at the jets and they all look super clean and no obstructions.
