Title: Maybe WTB: Early style seat
Post by: ShowBizWolf on June 28, 2016, 11:30:00 AM
Hi everybody...

Was entertaining the idea of getting a spare seat for my '98 E and making it more comfy... experimenting with different foams and whatnot... I have lots of extra material left over from when I recovered my current seat so that's no issue....

Anybody have a seat laying around you'd want to part with? I looked on ebay but the cheapest one I found was significantly more than I wanted to spend on a side project like this. I'm obviously willing to pay something... just not a lot.  :icon_rolleyes:

Thanks for reading !!

So, the cover does not need to be in good shape?

I have this from a non running bike. I'm in Northern VA, where are you located? Shipping costs may kill the deal.

Hi HPP, thank you for the reply! I'm in Western PA, 15904... I can't see the pic (says the drive is unavailable but that might be because I'm on a work computer) but no the cover most certainly doesn't need to be in good shape.

Let me know if you still can't see pics from another computer.

OK so I am home and saw the pics!!

Yeah that covering does not bother me in the least bit... I am still interested as long as the plastic like... structure(?) of the seat isn't damaged. Do you have any pictures of the underneath by chance? Thank youuuuuu

I don't anticipate it looking much different from a stock seat but if it does, (and it works) I'll be sure to post pics and explain what I did  :D

Looks good! Seems like every seat loses one of those rubber pads underneath LOL but they aren't expensive...

How much $$ were you thinkin', HPP?

I'll be interested to see how you go with the extra padding. I've been planning on doing this to my spare seat, but it's not quite as easy as it looks, because the seatbase has deep shaping (to aid rigidity), you couldn't just lay in a layer of foam there, and adding a layer on top of the foam, it would be difficult to follow and blend to the the sculptural curves of the stock foam top.
It can be done, obviously, but to get it to look really smooth could be difficult.

I totally agree. It would be one of those projects I'd work on just here and there... between my other 10 or so I have going on right now  :icon_rolleyes:

I'm still keeping a look out for a seat. After what I've seen, (ebay and HPP's help in giving me the $$ figures in regards to shipping and price of a box, etc) it's gonna take someone willing to wrap the thing in bubble wrap and just charge me for the shipping... otherwise I'm lookin at at least $30 and that's just too much for me to part with right now for a side side side side project  :tongue2:

I'm thinking the same thing for a project!

I'm looking into busying a seat now from a member and using it till I can get some foam to raise up the seat height. The bike is almost as awkward as the looks I get as a tall Asian male.... anyways, good luck with the seat, I'm getting quoted $40 for just shipping..... now i'm reconsidering this purcahse. lol
