I've searched for "Fumoto" and only found 3 threads but NO answer to the following question, so I respectfully ask:
Is anyone using a Fumoto valve?
Which one? Do you like it?

What is a fumoto valve? It's not a term I've ever read on this forum.
It's a Japanese product: a ball valve that replaces the oil drain bolt on the oil pan or sump. I use them on my cars. It means the threads on the sump are not as prone to stripping because one does not loosen then tighten a drain bolt; there is a spigot-like drain valve screwed in permanently instead.
Impressions anyone?
Seems like a decent enough idea,particularly if your "heavy handed".

I'm not getting any better at wrenching, the bike isn't getting younger, and aluminum isn't getting any less soft...

One issue: the fins on the sump may prevent the valve from rotating due to its width (it has a lever and is shaped like a Γ).
There are extenders but then the body of the valve would hang quite low, meaning it might shear off in an accident.
So, anyone actually fitted one to our bikes?
(The magnetic plug is not intended to prevent thread damage though, is it?)

Not at all...it's intended purpose is for ferromagnetic particles in the oil to adhere to....which it does VERY well.
That makes sense.
However there seem to be no Fumoto users. I'll see if the firm has any info by emailing them the question.
EDIT: OK, I emailed Fumoto in the USA and asked for an application for our bikes. I'll see what they say. Fingers crossed.
No affiliation with Fumoto. I don't know if it'll work, I have to measure, but these are responsive helpful people.
I got an answer! The bolt should be 14-1.5, so the F-106 valve should fit, BUT requires 23mm of radial clearance to be installed. If you do not have the proper clearance because of the cooling fins, you can use an adapter/extension (p/n ADP-106) to extend the valve away from the oil pan. I need to measure fun clearance and also consider how comfortable I am with the increased depth if I use the extender.

I can't agree with what they told u....the bolt hole accepts an M14 BUT the thread pitch is 1.25mm,NOT 1.5mm.
Aha! Thanks for that! I'll have to figure this out.
Looks like they do offer a 14x1.25mm variety as well. Clearance may still be an issue.
