Title: Spark plug color
Post by: Fatasianboy on July 14, 2016, 03:22:36 PM
So I know that white plug ends mean that the engine is too lean and black/gassy smelling means it's rich. Do these look too lean? I don't know what color a "happy/good running" engine is. I just drilled out those air mixture screw plugs and set them to 2.5 turns out from fully in. Should I turn them some more?

These were removed just after running for 10 minutes

IIRC, about 2.5 turns is stock setting. Have you changed anything else like pilot/main jets, air filter, exhaust?

If it's worth anything, that's exactly what mine look like running 20/60/132.5 jets and 3 turns.

10 minutes?  Do you think this is long enough to actually get a color coating onto the ceramic of the spark plug?

Okay thanks guys! Yeah I have jets one size larger than factory. I don't recall the exact sizes right now as I'm out of town. I also have a yoshimura exhaust in it as well. But I rode t around the other day and it felt fine, so I guess they're good for now!
