Title: WTB: Magneto Rotor, 2005 GS500F
Post by: Tekime on July 22, 2016, 11:18:01 AM
Goats. It happened. :(

Need a new magneto for my 205 GS500F. Part #31402-01D01

Let me know whatcha got! Might garage this for a winter project but figured I'd see if anyone had a spare kicking around.

Thanks,
Gabe

Well, there is one on eBay for $99 but I'm also 85% sure that the generator rotor for a GS450 is compatible. Here is one for $20 if you want to give it a try: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Suzuki-1987-GS450L-GS-450-GS450-5-19-STARTER-CLUTCH-MAGNETO-/381664971192?hash=item58dd0149b8:g:exIAAOSwvg9XTvYj&vxp=mtr (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Suzuki-1987-GS450L-GS-450-GS450-5-19-STARTER-CLUTCH-MAGNETO-/381664971192?hash=item58dd0149b8:g:exIAAOSwvg9XTvYj&vxp=mtr)

Interesting, I saw one on eBay for $99 but it's listed for the gs500e / gs450l (link (http://www.ebay.com/itm/suzuki-gs500e-gs450L-engine-flywheel-magneto-alternator-rotor-1986-1987-1988-/371612626828?hash=item5685d6af8c:g:YKEAAOxy4dNSz1dK&vxp=mtr))

That second one has $20 shipping so $40, not bad but a bit of a gamble. Would be a great find to discover that it works though.

There are some clear visual differences: three large magnets vs. six, and obviously different part #'s.

I'm going to hit the local m/c warehouse this week and see if they have some parts kicking around. Also compare fiches on those two generators and see what I can discover.

I do know for a fact that all GS500 rotors are compatible even though they look a little different. I replaced my '06 GS magneto rotor with one from an '89.

I can't see why the number of magnets would matter as long as the dimensions are otherwise the same. I think Suzuki was just trying to make the part cheaper to produce. I'm actually hoping you opt to try the GS450 rotor so that we can confirm that it is compatible.

About the years - that's really really helpful to know, thanks. Didn't make it up to the warehouse this week (work) but next week for sure.

Unless I get a great deal on a GS500 rotor.. I'm all for trying the GS450 rotor and will definitely post up results.
