Title: bike stalls
Post by: mlybarger on August 01, 2016, 07:26:02 AM
my gs500 stopped running today.  i took it to work and 1 mile into the ride, it stalled.  it would stay running (mostly) when on full choke.  it would run enough for me to get back home at about 5-8 mph.  if i applied any throttle, it would stall. it was hard to get it started again, and only on full choke would it start.

i haven't had anything done to the engine. looks like it's time. what could be the problem here?

I am no expert... but this is what I would do with my limited knowledge in general, and limited knowledge of your bike.

Since I have no idea the age of the bike, and/or what work was done in the past, I'd pull the carbs, clean them out, and probably buy a rebuild kit for both of them, replace all the gaskets, clean the jets out, then put it back together and cross my fingers. Sounds like the jets are clogged to me.

But again, I'm no expert and just learning, but that's what makes sense to me.

I agree, sounds like a clogged idle jet. Any rust in the tank? How old is the gas?
