So over the winter I had my frame and wheels powdered, and cleaned, rebuilt or painted every little part of my gs. Basically it looke liek a brand new bike. (I have an 89) Anyway, on saturday I got everything back together for the first time and finally adjusted my valves. It was warm enough to go for a 5 minute ride so I went. Everythign goes pretty well. It was running kinda wierd because of my adjusting the valves, but nothing I can't fix. So I get back from my little ride and pull in my garage. As soon as I stop I notice that there is smoke coming from my engine. I shut off the bike and look at it. The bike and my leg is allmost completely covered in motor oil. Ahhhhhh... After hundreds of hours in the past three months cleaning and preping the little gs it looks like I dipped it in oil!
It appears that I forgot to torge down one of that valve cover bolts, and it went bye bye. Lesson learded, torque ALL your bolts.
THE END
Doh!
Glad it wasn't worse!
Good lesson. I just adjusted my valves. At one point I loosened the camshaft screws but made sure to torque them back down to spec. Opening that valve cover definitely made me nervous. I am not an experienced mechanic.
ASLAM.
betcha that smelled likeroses   did that to a project motor at mmi, only place it did not leak was from the spot i thought it would :dunno:
