Hi Everyone,
my name Matt & I'm looking at buying a GS500 for my seconed bike ( i have an XR-400R) which i have been riding on the road & i thought it's time to upgrade :) so i was wondering if you guys could help me out ? should i go naked or fairing.
all the best matt:)
Thats a very personal choice there. ;)
Personally I like slightly faired.. just enough to get the wind off your chest.
You've got riding experience, I'd say you're safe going either way. Fairings are not cool for a beginner unless you've got plenty of cash to replace them after your first laydown. Or just do what I did... get one of each
What kind of use did you have in mind for your street bike? For around-town use, I'd say no fairing is much more fun. You get the full effect of the breeze, and on hot days you will appreciate every square inch of breeze you can get. If you are gonna be on the highway alot then a fairing of some kind is a must!!!
what kind of budget are you working with? the 2004 has the full-fairing and I would imagine would be much more comfy on the highway. If not, lots of aftermarket options are available.
Naked man! That's what's so cool about the GS. If you want fairings and plastic consider getting a sportbike (CBR, R6, GSXR)...
My street bike is a 2002 CBR600. If you like fairings this is a sweet looking bike.

ASLAM.
Personnaly I prefer faired but as the GS was my first street bike, it was soooo much easier to take apart and play around with. With experiance i'll be looking for a yzf600r

Same here. I just like to see the engine, that's what makes it a MOTORcycle.
Thank-you to all who got back to me :) , Well I book my XR-400 in for a servie today & thought why I'm here I should take a GS 500 for a test ride & I did man this bike kicks ass %100 ( I thought i was in heaven) anyway I told the guy that I will be back on Wed to pick it ( That when I should have money) for it. it's a 2003 bike it's going be to sooo GREAT :) :) :) .
all the best matt :) your friend
They let you test ride bikes? Lucky... I haven't found a dealership yet that will let you ride a bike before buying.
Glad you liked the GS! Welcome to the site!
if you're riding on the hwys a lot...get a fairing...
i was out yesturday for an hour on the freeway going 140+kph and I was blown ALL over the place...
I'm thinking about getting a fairing...but the cheap ones are too small...and the GIVI A750 is too expensive :dunno:
Lerxst,
Yep that right I live out of the city + I know the owner of the shop :) too which i think help alot on taken the bike for a test ride, also Thank-you for the Welcome (paese04) it's great feeling to know that There is a great Message Forum around that ppl are pretty good on what they know ( about the GS 500) which good 8) *sp when someone new come along ( Like me) . Anyway I have to wait 1hour before I can go & pick up my GS 500 :) 8) which I can not wait . but i guess i will :thumb: again thanks for everythink guys
all the best matt :) your friend
ps sorry about the spelling
I'd go with a small fairing for the GS. If you want more coverage, I think you're better off buying a used CBR or similar that already has a full fairing. You can always hop on the XR400 when you get a craving for nekkid fun.

My national cycle one gives me great covereage on the highway it just gets the top of my head but only at high speeds and then I can just tuck down a bit.
