Title: Parting out '04 GS-F
Post by: Iarn on September 04, 2016, 08:00:07 AM
As some of you may have read my GS died in record flooding in my area recently. There are quite a few rare parts on her that I would like to return to this community, along with the usual parts. I haven't had time to really dig into her so everything has been untouched by me since the flood.

Here are some simple pictures to gauge interest. I should be able to begin disassembly in the next couple days for more detailed photos if all goes well here. If you have any questions or want more/better photos let me know and we can work it out.

Small list of what is immediately usable.

-SS70 9" Delkevic slip-on
-'89 clip-on handlebars - powder coated black
-Stainless GS500 chain guard
-Rear tire-hugger
-New speedo cable - has ~500-1,000 miles on it
-Gently used new Battleax-45 rear tire - has less than 500 miles on it.
-Aztec8 Dual 5.75" headlights (needs TLC due to flood water)
-Brand new never used 520 110 link D.I.D chain (was submerged but was covered in oil for storage. Has one link with a rust spot but is otherwise pristine)

And the list goes on...

Everything is up for grabs here. Everything has been touched by water so many things like electronics may be dead or need cleaning/work to function again.

Shipping anywhere in Continental U.S.

You said the electrical components are probably shot, but do you know if anything could have gone wrong with your engine?

I'm in the North-East Florida area btw.

It was operational before it flooded. That's about all I can say that is factual regarding it. I haven't turned her over or touched her at all since the flood besides moving her to a different house. Once the disassembly begins I'll be able to visually inspect things more thoroughly for you. As of now there isn't much known about the state of its internals.

Sounds good to me, I may look for/ask for either the entire thing (if it's still okay) or just guts if not.

Hi,

I'm in California and could use the chain guard. What price did you have in mind?

Also, if you do part out the engine I'd like the right side round cover (near the rear brake lever; the round cap).

That bike doesn't look bad at all. Flooded ??? where - tarheel = NC ???
I am thinking its likely to have had minimal effect on the bike.
Cool.

IIRC (and Iarn can correct me if I'm wrong), Iarn is in Louisiana and because of major flooding in the area due to a large storm (hurricane, I think but I could be wrong), the bike was basically underwater for an extended period of time.

Other thread about it is here http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=70934.0

QCBaker is correct. It was submerged for multiple days and there was a lot of silt in that water to boot. I cleaned the exterior but I'm sure the inside didn't fair so well. It isn't worth the money to get it back running and I do not have the time to properly devote to it. I'm working 70 hours a week right now for the next 5 months on top of other situations outside of that, like rebuilding my home.

The bike is in the process of disassembly, when it's done I'll take individual pictures of everything for more detail.

Hey dude,

Hope you're doing well. I went down on my bike 3 weeks ago and I'm trying to get parts to rebuild it. Below is my short list of parts I'm looking for. Let me know if you have them and pricing. I prefer to put my money in the pocket of a member here than on ebay or whatever site.

- Clutch lever
- Plastic Cluster cup behind the gauge.
- Left and right side engine covers.

I can send you a picture of any of the above if you need clarification on the parts.

Hey Iarn check your PMs, I PM'd about a few parts, and I still am interested in that brake lever clamp part, maybe we can throw it all together.

He hasn't been active since October 13th... he's going through a lot... I'm sure he will check the forum eventually. Working 70 hours a week plus re-building a home? I couldn't even imagine  :icon_sad:
