Sometimes when I am shifting from first to second the gear will jam, and rev the engine up way too high for my liking. What could be causing the jam? Would it be a bad idea to replace the front/rear sprockets? If so, what sprockets would you guys reccomend for aftermarket?
I'm thinking there's a couple problems here.....
1) The gear jamming is most likely caused by your clutch cable needing adjusted. There are 3 points that need adjusted - check the service manual.
2) The engine revving is kinda all on you - the throttle isn't connected to the clutch..... but it happens.
3) Are your sprockets / chain worn out? If not, there's no need to replace them.
First things first... oil change!
When was it last done?
Check for free play on the gear lever. If there is too much play it becomes really easy to 'miss' a gear when trying to shift.
If there is play try to solve it to see if it feels better. Leaving play on the lever also eats away the lever axle faster. I fix it by replacing the lever then filling the gaps (due to a worn axle) with needles before tightening the bolt.

Recently received another GS500 and I kept messing up changing gears because of play on the lever.
