Title: white smoke
Post by: TWin on September 15, 2016, 10:23:41 AM
so I just got my bike back from the shop and I noticed that there was white smoke coming out of the exhaust and towards the end of my ride (about 20 minutes) the bike started idling lower and lower and eventually stalled on me. I'm new to riding but I read some things online, is it possible that the carbs are flooding?

Flooding would be black smoke I think.
White smoke is usually condensation on cold days, and should go away after warmup. Is that the case?

Edit: simple things first, the stalling could be caused by low fuel level. Tried switching to reserve?

White smoke is a bit of an oddity - black or blue (fuel or oil) are far more common.

The only time I've seen white smoke coming from an air-cooled bike was, like yours, after a service. It was a backyard service and the person doing the service had added Subaru head cleaning additive to the fuel. Oddly, I've heard people speak highly of the Subaru stuff. Anyway, it made the bike blow white smoke and run pretty rough.

Maybe you've had an overdose of additive? Worth checking with the service people.

White smoke could be flooding, or even water in fuel, but @ end of ride - how long a ride ?
Could be you're getting the water and crap shaken out into the fuel @ that time.

In short, flooding, water or other mystery additive.

Cool.
