My GS is in pretty severe need of a a new chain/sprockets and I thought that while I'm changing it anyway I might as well change the sprocket sizes, from what I can tell to either 14T front or something like 47T rear, any advice on this would also be appreciated. I rarely ride faster than 110 km/h and always avoid motorways, so it shouldn't be a huge issue regarding top speed and economy.
But what I couldn't find is how long of a chain I'd need. As far as I can tell the 47T rear might be preferable because it's less hard on the chain, but I reckon I'd need a substantially longer chain than the ordinary 110 link. All insight is appreciated :)

47T less hard on chain?? Stock is 16/39
The rear sprocket size will make little or no difference to the chain life. It is the small front sprockets that are hard on chains, especially on high power motors - which this is not. The small sprockets cause the chain to wear faster and flex the chain itself more. Too small and the chain can "cog" since the links have to flex so much. Also having too small of sprockets (both f/b) will allow the chain the contact the rubber chain buffer or worse the swing arm, not good.
I went to a 15-41, but I still highway ride. If you go 14f just watch for contact when the suspension moves. 14/47 if it fits will really allow you to lift the front tire :thumb:
