Title: Possible "WTB": E gas tank
Post by: Big Rich on September 29, 2016, 05:13:20 PM
So here's the story..... a relative of a friend was having problems with his tank leaking due to rust holes. He didn't want to deal with a leaking tank, so he sold his bike to a good friend of mine for cheap. My good friend is trying to repair the rust hole(s) with JB Weld and Por-15, but I want to check the masses here.

Anybody have an "E" tank in decent shape? He hasn't asked me to post here looking for one, but thought I'd get some feelers out in advance.....

Thanks folks! Oh, and we are in PA..... don't want to get something shipped from the UK or anything.

Good thing its you Rich! .. otherwise I would have thought the friend and the relative and the person needing the tank were all the same person! Lol. .  :thumb:

Ha! That all made better sense in my mind before typing it out....

TL/DR: somehow I'm involved with a GS500 yet not owning one.....haha.

I have an e tank, it's got some dents and needs a paint job.

Thanks Matty! Just talked to my buddy today, and he is putting Por-15 in the tank soon. Once that cures, we will find out if the tank is any good or not.

Yeah same here. Mine's in use at the moment but the new one is ready to go on once I get the bike back from the shop. Slight dents, maybe a spot of filler on it, usable as-is with no need for paint (it's red) unless you want to get more serious about removing the remnant of dents which will require filler and then paint.

Anyway, I think mildly-dented, unrusted E tanks like this are in short supply so I shouldn't have trouble flipping mine on ebay.

Ha ha! I'm the friend. Despite my exhaustive efforts (jb weld, tiger hair, bondo, and por15), this damned tank is leaking again.

Matty - do you still have that tank? How much do you want for it?
