Hi Guys!
I recently dropped a cam chain on my 93 GS500E and what I decided to do is basically replace the bike...
A guy I know is selling a 2008 GS500F that he had an accident with and isn't a Statutory Write-Off. The only issue is 1: He hit a car and bent the front forks up, and 2: its been sitting for over a year...
What problems would I have to deal with? (Tank rust, dirty carbies, stale fuel, stale oil)
Any help would be appreciated!
Cant speak too much for carb/engine issues, but I bent my forks recently in a crash so I know quite a bit about that. With an impact like hitting a car, the steering stem/bottom triple may also need replaced. The front axle bolt may need replaced. The front brake rotor could be cracked/bent in some way. Wheel bearing races could be cracked. Wheel itself could be bent or cracked.
Thats all good dude i have a fresh front end to wack on there stem and all!
But thanks for the input man!
Hi cammaibbi !!
I'm kinda surprised that there haven't been more replies to this... so I'll go ahead and take a stab at it.
It sounds like you're on the right track... I would certainly look inside the tank to check for rust. Another thing I'd do is drain all the old gas out and fill with fresh but (this is where someone else would have to chime in) I'm guessing the carbs would need some attention, maybe cleaning or idk what happens to them when they sit for over a year... that's something I've never messed with. :embarrassed:
It most certainly couldn't hurt to drain the oil and change the filter... check the air filter... and make sure to clean, lube and adjust the chain too!
Check out the condition of the tires... like look for cracking or dry spots and see what year they were made and of course inspect the brakes. That's about all I can think of for now... better get back to work lol !!
Good luck!!!! And post up some pics for us
