Been working for the last few months to get my GS into pristine condition, and one of the things I have left is the intake manifolds, which are a bit air-leaky and although some RTV silicone sealed most of the problems I still want to swap them because I want everything running as it should.
My mechanic quoted me a pretty hefty sum for the 2 manifolds and replacement, and I figured I might as well go on eBay and buy a set of intake manifolds and just do the work myself as it doesn't seem that hard. Does an 01-09 set for a GS500F fit a GS500E? how hard is it to replace them? I've already done things like carb cleaning so I know how to strip the bike apart, is it really a simple matter of unscrewing a few bolts and putting on new manifolds?
It really is that simple. Make sure you replace the o-rings as well.
I'll let someone else confirm that the '01+ manifolds fit the '89-00 bikes.
BTW my manifolds also looked perfect and while in the shop one of them just popped apart into two pieces.. the rubber hose part came off of the flange. So even though they might look good, they may not be as solid as you think. It's probably wise to replace them. They are not expensive. I kick myself a little bit for not changing mine when I did the o-rings.
Up to '00 the part number for the inlets is... 13101-01D00
'01 and up and the number changes to....... 13101-01D40
So something is different :dunno_black:
Numbers for the O-rings and clamps don't change.
i've read here that the carb bodies on the 3 circuit carbs are 1 mm larger in dia than the older 2 circuit ones and the newer carbs have been fitted to the older manifolds but think if you are having air leak problems it might be worse going the other way. :dunno_black:
