Has anyone rebuilt their choke before?
My bike has a "floating" choke problem. What I mean by this is I can have the choke cable fully closed and the "choke plunger" on the L carb remains slightly open. I can physically push it in, but I actually have to keep pressure on it to allow the bike to idle steadily. The moment I pull my finger off, the idle starts to "hunt" (goes up and down) and the bike runs erratically. I put my finger back on the plunger and it idles more normally or as normal as 20 year old CV carbs will idle.
Anyways, anyone have some insights into the choke mechanism?

Trying to remember off the top of my head... there's a spring inside of that plunger that either pushes or pulls on the mechanism. Is that spring still working on yours?
Other potential weak spot - the linkage bar that connects the two choke plungers didn't slide easily on mine, and would catch in place. I ended up putting in a couple washers to level / straighten it out, which solved that problem. Before this, I would actuate the choke lever, and the engine didn't react the way I thought it should.
Also check that the choke cable isn't catching within its housing?
Thanks for the reply. As it turns out, the plunger you mentioned first was the problem. That spring was non-existant as well a the rubber stopper on the outside. This caused the whole mechanism to sort of rattle around in there. I've ordered a replacement (it just snaps in) and I'll pop it in. Hope that solves the problem. :thumb:
