Title: Bike won't start or when it does (while choked) will eventually die.
Post by: aerbourne on December 06, 2016, 12:34:58 PM
Hey guys, I'd appreciate it if you'd help me figure out what's going on. I just recently bought a 2007 gs500f with less than 4,000 miles on it. I rode it home (~45 minutes) from the guy's house. It then sat in my girlfriend's garage for 2 weeks until I could pick it up in my truck and drive it 3 hours back to my place. I started it up this morning, let it warm up on choke on the center stand while I grabbed several things from inside, then I went out, took it off choke, and rode it to work just fine. I went out at lunch to go ride it around, and it's now either not starting (makes the normal electric starter sound but just doesn't get going), or it's running for a while and then dying. It dies immediately if I try to take it off choke as well. The oil light comes on when you put the key in and switch it to on, but turns off once you start the bike. Is it supposed to do that or do I have an oil problem? My oil level isn't low.

Thanks in advance for any help y'all can give.

That's how the oil light is supposed to work, you no oil pressure until the bike is running. If it comes on while it's running, that's a serious problem.

There's another thread with very similar symptoms to yours, could be related.

Okay! I figured the oil light was just normal stuff when the bike turned on. Do you happen to have a link to that thread? I didn't find anything when I was looking earlier.
