Title: Piston seals
Post by: the_63 on December 12, 2016, 08:08:09 AM
Hey guys,

Has anyone changed the piston seals in their brake calipers and can you tell me if the pressure seals (the thicker ones) are the same on the front and rear? The thought didn't even occur to me until I decided to see how much a rebuild kit would cost and noticed on some of the sets the seals look different.

Here are some pictures of the dust seals from the rear brake caliper on my 1999 GS500, stock caliper:

Rear seals are on the left in this picture, compared to what I have recently installed on the front caliper on the right:

The top seal in the picture is the thicer than the one below it. The thicker seal goes into the caliper first (I think that's the pressure seal) and the thin one is installed after it:

The "pressure" seal is also taller than the dust seal.

Hope this helps someone who may have a similar question to me, and need a comparison of break caliper seals.

**My calipers are stock, if you've upgraded to aftermarket, or brakes from another bike, this information may not be pertinent to you**
