I recently bought a 1992 Suzuki GS500e and was looking for some ideas for it. I bought it for $400, it starts and rides good. The bad it does need new tires, battery, the new ignition (currently zip tied to handlebar) will need to be correctly installed and the plastic body parts have been spray painted and starting to fade. Seeing if anyone knows or has done any body or performance modifications.
There isn't much in the way of performance for these engines. They are what they are, keep it maintained and it will run forever. Having said that, swapping the airbox out for a K&N and rejetting to match is on my list. But only because I despise the airbox.
Styling...have a look around, one member has LED's, others have created some pretty decent cafe racers, there a sick little aussie scrambler.
I mean what kind of styling do you like? I personally don't like cafe racer style, but your imagination is the limit, followed closely by your technical ability, but as a mukka says: "how hard can it be?"

Hi the_fng and welcome to the forum! Congrats on the GS purchase.
You've come to the right place for sure when it comes to information, pics, mods, etc. I'm not sure that anyone will reply and tell ya what they have specifically done, but I can tell you that if you just browse around this section (projects/builds) you'll find a ton of ideas and info.
Also, don't forget to go to the wiki:
http://wiki.gstwins.com/
And also Pablo's site:
http://pantablo500.tripod.com/
for lots more pics and how-to's.
If you have any pics of your GS, post 'em up! We love pics... and also, what direction are you wanting to go with it? Besides fixing the things you mentioned, of course.
Looked at few of the other posts and the scramblers look pretty cool. I tried posting pics every time I tried it kept saying too large.
Ahh yes, that'll happen. The forum's uploader is full and has been for a while...
To post up some pics you'll wanna upload them to photobucket or imgur or facebook and then add the link here by using the little Mona Lisa button above the smileys.
I don't know how to do it when viewing the forum on a phone... dunno if it's different or not.
You can post images using the IMG tags. It looks like this:

Yes and with modern pictures they are probably going to be really big when posted that way so you can improve readability with the "width=XXXXX" tag, like this:
[IMG width=800]http://example.com/photo.jpg[/IMG]
