Title: Intro and greetings
Post by: Vycama on January 24, 2017, 11:09:50 PM
Hello everybody!

I'm a 24yo rider from France who has been owning a 2000 GS500E for about a year. I've been reading this forum for a while now and I think this is time for me to introduce myself and start posting some messages.

I'm a daily rider with my old cutie pie and last week-end she just reached 65,000 km / +40,000 miles and still does (almost) great. The former owners didn't really take care of the bike, the engine part is doing great (need to change a few gasket but it cost an arm to do it in a motorcycle shop and I don't have a garage) and the "visual" parts were in pretty bad shape when I bought it.

So I took care of it by fixing and changing stuff from time to time during this last year. I was inspired by the work done by Adidasguy with Junior and his other bike. I actually was looking to reach to him last summer after reading his posts and viewing his Youtube channel for some months to talk with him about his bikes and all until I learned that he was no longer among us.

So here we are, I still have a lot of work to do on the bike and some electrical issues to understand and fix and I just wanted to make a quick introduction of myself before starting to post on the forum to seek some help and experience.

Thank you! I was actually at Suzuki's Dealership after work to buy an intake pipe because I'm facing some issues with my left one. I should receive it next week. I'm thinking of complete update of my dashboard in the next few month (Gauge cluster, change the switches, add a warning light switch so I'm starting to learn everything I can't about the electrical circuits and more global electrical magic. I haven't touch at that area since middle school so I've got quite a lot of work to do.

I need to get my actual gauge cluster out to see how it looks without it and see what kind of clusters could be interesting.

Gauge cluster is, I think, 2 8mm vinyl nuts under the two chrome heads you  can see on the gauge cluster. Obviously you need to remove the mechanical cables from the back. The lights pull out with a little persuasion, just be careful not to tug on the wires to prevent any damage. I found wiggling them from side to side and a small amount of backward pressure was plenty.

Like Showbizwolf said, keep us updated. Pictures are always welcome.

I already took them off a couple of months ago because I had some electrical issue in this area so that part shouldn't be much of an issue. I need to find the time to get some nice pictures from a nice place because for the last few months you'd have the choice between Work and Home.  ;)
