Post by: Screamnbanshee on January 25, 2017, 08:35:57 PM
Just wondering because im looking to buy a used rear caliper for my 89, is the rear brake caliper the same or interchangeable between all years from 89 to 09? :dunno_black:

Hi Screamnbanshee, welcome to the site. If I had time I would do it for ya but at the moment I don't... what you could do (if nobody replies) is look on the OEM parts sites like motosport or bikebandit and look up at least a few years of the GS. Find the blow-up picture of the rear brake setup and compare the parts numbers of the caliper. If you start to see that each year has the same part number, you've got an answer

The caliper design changed slightly at some point but all caliper years will fit on all years of GS500. I don't think the brake pads changed.

Calipers are interchangeable as an assembly for all years GS500 front and rear and rear pads are same too for all years.  But the front calipers were redesigned internally in 1996 and have different pads for 89-95 and 96-10.

Thanks showbiswolf. I had tried looking up part numbers but the sites used their own numbers not oe numbers. Thanks all others who replied. Your info is greatly appreciated  :woohoo:
