Title: GS500F vacuum line routing help
Post by: 1finetaco on February 20, 2017, 05:23:07 PM
So I picked up my first bike an 08 GS500F over the summer and have been riding it a few times a week since. I wash washing it yesterday and noticed there is a 1/4" vacuum line that seems to be disconnected. I can't figure out what it goes to. One end is tucked between the frame and motor on the right side where the foot most connects. The other end I found wrapped near the rear spring coming across to the other side. It looks like it's some type of drain line and is approximately 16" long. I've been searching all over trying to figure out with line this is so I can reconnect it. Please help.

There is one drain hose that attaches to the bottom of the gas tank. I'd also check your carbs and airbox. There are a couple of good vacuum line routing diagrams floating around here. If you search you can probably find one, otherwise someone may be along to post one.

Could it be the breather hose from the battery? The original battery in my 2007 model had the breather on the right. The current after market one has the breather on the left hand side of the battery.
From the description you gave "The other end I found wrapped near the rear spring coming across to the other side" it sounds like it could be the hose that should attach to the battery breather.
Hope this helps.

Are you positive it's the same line?

If so, you'll likely need to pull the fuel tank off to reconnect it to whatever it is.

Two lines come out near the rear shock, the carb vent hose which goes over the air box, and the battery overflow.
The only one that might come out near the pegs is the airbox drain.
Been a while since I owned a GS so I'm not positive, though.
