Hello, I am new to this forum. I have a bent handle bar on a 2001 gs500.
I bought a handle bar on Ebay that the seller said it was removed from a 2002 gs500.
The ad said it was "56111-01DA0"
56111-01DA0
On the bar is factory etched "2H21P 01DA0"
I went out and compared it to the bar on my bike, and the bends look like a match, but the width of this replacement is about 3/4 to whole inch longer on each end, so overall it is 1 1/2" to two inches longer.
I am guessing I'll have to have it cut down. Where the hole is drilled, I am thinking the throttle grip would have the extra width sticking out. This bike is my only transportation.
Or will I be surprised and find that it works out OK?
I have a bicycle and work is only six minutes away, but... I like this GSTwin!
I'll probably return it... If I cut it down a bit, I might have to drill another hole. Does anyone know how close to the old hole I can drill another one without compromising the strength of the bar?
Also, this replacement bar has a hole drilled 3/4 inch from the clutch (left) end. What could that be for? From the IPB at cheap cycle parts dt com, the 2001 has no such hole
The wider handlebar will work fine and you might even prefer it. You can always cut it down later.
I have a handlebar that's probably 4-5" wider than stock on mine.
Yes, I have considered that. Would not mind being able to move my mirrors out to where I could see behind me better without bar-end mirrors. Already have two inch extensions on them and found some mirrors from sv650. Don't like the extensions, it is too close to the choke control.
Thanks, I guess I'll keep them and sleep on it. Hope I don't need to get longer cables or something.
Wish logging wasn't so hard. I could have sworn that magic created the electric arc that ignites the fuel the cylinder. just for giggles I tried: spark plug, gas, induction, condenser, coil, battery, Jesus, electricity, Suzuki, voltage ... I need study I guess.
Night shift worker- off to sleep
Thanks again
