Title: Getting a 2nd Key
Post by: ski_rush on April 29, 2017, 12:21:18 PM
I just recently bought my bike and it only came with one key. I'd like to get a spare. I looked on ebay and online. The OEM Suzuki key is $21 for a blank key. Two questions:

1. Do I need to get the OEM key or can I get a less fancy, but less expensive "generic" key?

2. Where do I get the key cut? Can I go to locksmith type place or do I need to find a suzuki dealership?

Thanks,
ski

Your new key blank does not need to be a Suzuki brand blank. eBay is full of blanks for a couple bucks. Just pick the one that suits you. Make sure it mentions GS500 as a compatible model in the ad.

Any locksmith can cut a new key with the blank. This is low tech stuff, the key is no more complicated for them to cut than a standard home deadbolt key.

I went to a  locksmith down the road from me, and ended up getting 2 copies for $8. Would definitely just call around and see who does it.

ace hardware carrys the key blanks that fit the GS500, at least mine does, and will cut you a new key. my store is also a small store compared to most.

Any decent locksmith will have the blanks and will cut the keys for you. Key blanks and copying keys are cheap, too.

Hell, I even had my locksmith make a key for a lock I didn't have an original key for and that only cost like $30.

Not only ACE hardware but a locksmith (https://www.wheatonglenmontlocksmith.com/) store is also a better option getting a new key.
