they literally have 52 miles on them, this "slice" goes ALL the way around the tire, I looked into my fender to check if its rubbing on something, and nothing is there that would rub in that spot.. and i can't see what i'd hit on the road way that would cause it to go all the way around the tire, also the "Tear" in the rubber is to the right of the seam that the casting flashing was at. should I be contacting bikebandit? also the tires already mounted.. if it's a defect due to manufacture, they gonna pay for my demount and remount again?! :icon_rolleyes:
Could be flashing from the mold....see the spiral above your thumb, looks like coiled up rubber flash from the mold??

yeah but its "ripped" along that flashing line, a little to the right of where it was. I'll call Avon tomorrow and see what they have to say, pretty sure they are just gonna tell me to contact bikebandit and return it, as that's what their website reads to do. but that requires me a trip to the tire place to get it unmounted 20-30$ unsure the actual rate for just a demount the return shipping normally like 7 dollars and some change, then if they agree its something wrong. they send a new one, and I have to spend ANOTHER 30 dollars to have em re-mounted and balanced. :dunno_black: they gonna refund me my travel gas amount, and my $67.00? I'm sure they aren't... that's what courts are for now days :laugh: :icon_rolleyes: [that was satire]

Again, let me note, this goes all the way around the tire.. I would understand 1/2 or 1/4 of the tire, I hit something in the road.. its just strange it goes ALL the way around.

I'm not really concerned if it has nothing to do with delamination of the rubber... its like maybe 2mm deepest, and its in the center of the tire, with all my highway travel that 2mm will be gone in like a month, maybe two..
I was gunna say, it might just go away with a bit of riding.

E-mail the manufacturer and Bikebandit with the picture., I've gotten couple of free tires for things like that.
Modern high silica bike tyres tend to build up a static charge. For that reason a strip of carbon is molded into the tyre. It looks like a very fine cut going all the way round the circumference of the tyre - usually offset to the left from the centre line. Michelin has a good page explaining it on their site. Other manufacturers do the same thing.
The line, which is almost invisible on a brand new tyre, does become more visible after just a little wear. However, the rolled edge shown in the photograph doesn't look real healthy.
What you found is the "Antenna Tread" Yes you might have a we bit of rubber coming off around it, but it shouldn't get worse.
