Title: Is this chain compatible?
Post by: Darkstar on May 15, 2017, 03:51:51 PM
I just bought this because I was smart enough to follow Amazons advice that it's compatible with the GS500. After a 500 mile ride, and further reading, the specs say it's only good up to 400cc. Can anyone confirm that I was either an idiot or not?

It will be OK. It is not like the GS500 puts out a bunch of horsepower. Just make sure the master link is on correctly, the chain is not too tight, and you put some chain lube on every once in a while.

Don't know why you went with a non-oring chain.  Those are typically for dirt.  You'll spend more time cleaning and lubing it than you will riding it, lol (not literally).

Next time go with an o/x-ring chain.  Plenty more money but higher rated and lower maintenance.

if you're bad at remembering to oil your chain.. don't get a non-oring. and TBH i know plenty of dirtbike guys who run o-ring chains now too..

Fair enough.  Just be aware of what you are in store for and regularly maintain it.
