Title: Hayabusa Rims
Post by: 89gS500_Kirk on May 17, 2017, 08:06:18 AM
Does anyone know if the standard Hayabusa rims will fit on my GS500? I would like to have bigger tires and have stock on my bike at the moment.

where pics? :dunno_black:

You can make anything fit, but how much are you willing to put into it?  There are all kinds of things to consider,....

:thumb:Ok thanks, and by "just fit" I was meaning without much modifications. So the Katana 600 is the best option to get a bigger tire and little modifications.

Thanks

You mean buying a Katana 600 instead of the GS500?

Because that's the best option, besides just sticking with the stock size tire on the GS500.

gsJack has probably the most reliable and complete experience with different size tires on a GS500, I'd recommend doing a search on this forum prior to asking questions like this.

If it is just for a style exercise then fine, but  I suspect you problem is going to be fitting the giant tyres into the swingarm AND clearing the chain ( the brake arm can be modded easily).
If it is for handling, the optimium size for a bike of this weight and power is only about a 160 ( maybe a 150 depending on rider weight). Anything bigger than that and you will have trouble getting a decent contact patch as the tyre won't deform sufficiently nor correct shape.

Yes, Katana rear rim with a 150 tire is as big as you can go without major modification.

I ran a couple of 150/70 and a 150/60 rear tires on my GSs and have posted many times that a bias 110/80 Lasertec front with a radial 150/70 Roadattack rear were the best all around handling pair of tires of all the many different sizes and types I've run on the GSs.  I liked the stability on steel open grate bridges and on wiggly construction grooves of the Lasertec front and the way the 150/70 Roadattack radial rear on a stock 3.5" rear rim fell into corners and stuck doing it.  Wear was close to edges with my then 240# weight.

I have a 140/80 rear tire on my GS and I really like it. Someday I'll probably give a 150/70 a try.
