Title: Neat and Inexpensive Tail/Seat Bag
Post by: ShowBizWolf on May 23, 2017, 02:40:12 PM
Came across this a few weeks ago on facebook and thought I'd share here. Tail/Seat bag that kinda looks like a cowl! Submitted my best offer and got it for $17.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/231580037072?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I'm still VERY happy with my tank bag so I won't be using this every day but for the price and the look, I couldn't pass it up. Also, I didn't like the straps it came with. They give you MORE than enough length of nylon material but I wanted elastic instead... so I purchased 2.5 yards of 1" wide black elastic for $3.49 and used the clips the bag came with to make my own.

It's snug enough with only the lower two straps but for the pic I put all 4 on. Bonus that you can still take the seat off for helmet hanging or whatever!

Damn!  That's a neat installation.  I have a tail bag, but I never thought of strapping under the seat.  I ran my straps all the way down to those little hook thingies way below the seat.

I've used bungees too...but I like the flat elastic straps.

What I really like is your straps don't touch the rear body work.  Mine do, and they attract dirt, which then causes scratches.

Good tip!

Thanks twocool! I've used those hook things before as well when I used one of those bungee nets...! But I agree with you, I don't like scratches on the plastics either :nono:

Thanks for sharing! I've been using a duffel bag, bungee strapped to my back seat for my gym clothes/shoes and other miscellaneous items. It works, but something like this would make my life a bit easier until I can fork over a small fortune for a nice tank bag. The install looks great.

Any pics of the inside and bottom?

It's always so hard to tell from pictures and a LWH description, what is the practical internal size?  A 6-pack?

The internet is not working very well at all right now here so I can't get the eBay listing to load... but IIRC it shows multiple views of the bag, close-ups, etc. And I do remember there being other listings for this bag that shows the measurements.

I'm thinking a 6-pack could fit in it, yes. When I got it, it was folded flat from shipping and so I poofed it back up by stuffing a (men's size) large fur-lined/insulated hoodie into it.

I did click on your link to the listing, it does list measurements but doesn't really show much.

Every time I've reviewed a bag I've used a can/bottle of soda/water as a reference.

When I get home later I can measure the bag if you'd like me to :)

Alrighty so the bag measures about 12" in length. The opening at the front from top to bottom is right around 7" and the width is approximately 10". Not a huge bag but like I said, it's to kinda supplement my tank bag when needed.

I was able to fit 10 Hamm's in it... haha no not meats of course I mean my beers lmao and the bag closed/zipped easily. Here is a pic for ya

I'm assuming there are 3 more in the bag behind the 7 in front.

Showing how much beer the bag will hold is the absolute BEST... Great post, I have been wanting to get a bag so that I do not always have to have a backpack on. This looks to be my next investment.

This looks awesome! I've been wanting to get a small bag for the bike and this will definitely do the trick for what I need. The price is right, and shipping is free to Canada. I just put in an offer, so hopefully I can get an even better price :D

Thanks for sharing :)

I'm buying this, but why did you not want the "nylon straps". I cant sew and neither can the lovely @ home. So that elastic mod - non starter.
Cool.

Mine came in a couple days ago! I got it for 16 bucks. Expected delivery was late July, and i got it June 9th. Pretty impressed haha.

The bag itself is great, and loads of storage space for mostly anything I need. Even a convenient pocket on the inside to hold your ownership/insurance papers.

I see what ShowBiz says about the straps. They are a little long, however I just tied the ends in knots so that they were not flapping in the wind. Elastic is a nice touch for a clean install, but I'm not about to do some sewing lol. I see you used all 4 attachment points too. I just used the squeeze clips so that I could pop the bag off that much easier and carry it with me if I need to.

@ Buddha, I just liked the idea of small, stretchy straps rather than super long nylon ones.

@ Shift-E, I think they made the straps that long cuz they figured people would wrap them around the whole tail of the bike rather than just under the seat maybe... idk lol... and yeah, I made straps using all 4 clips they provided and I figured I'd use whatever configuration I wanted when the time came. Just included all 4 for the pics :icon_mrgreen:

Did yours come with 2 straps with the hook style? Mine only came with one... and the shoulder strap has hook style too. Not that I really care because I'm using the squeeze clips anyways.

I'm trying to remember what it came with... I didn't pay too much mind cuz once I looked at the straps I thought, "No, I don't like these, I'mma make my own."

I believe you got the same straps as me tho. When I cut 'em apart I had 4 plastic hook clips, (two of one size and two a bit bigger) and the 4 squeeze clips.

Wow, that was more beat-up than mine. Even more impressive.
One day I hope know the skills required to turn it into something like yours.

I think I pissed off that seller, they stopped responding to my offers.
However I bought this one -
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Motorcycle-Tank-Bag-Helmet-Tail-Waterproof-Luggage-Riding-Tribe-Travel-Tool/302240977634?_trksid=p2059210.c100150.m2822&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140127103912%26meid%3D25282b4d0c7347b6b425395525c6afd1%26pid%3D100150%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D292072646560

And yeaaaaaayyyy I am now riding tribe. I so badly wanted to be part of a tribe. Yeaaaayyyyyyy.

Cool.
