Title: Brake light stobe/flash module
Post by: jawnee on May 25, 2017, 02:01:37 PM
Hi Guys new to the forum so sorry if this is the wrong section!

I bought a 2001 GS500 last October and installed This (https://www.amazon.com/Flasher-Strobe-POWERFUL-GENERATION-12-24V/dp/B0185HMIIQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1495744911&sr=8-1&keywords=motorcycle+brake+flash) brake strobe. Worked fine for a month but I noticed last night that my brake lights weren't activating when depressed. I looked at the module and saw that it had a bubble in it (Like an old laptop battery.)

Just wondering if any has experience with a good module, or if there is a nice all-in-one LED integrated light to just throw in there.

Thanks!

I would try to contact them and ask for a replacement/warranty repair.

Personally, WHen I want my brake lights to flash, I flash em with my foot or hand.  I don't want something flashing them for me annoying traffic behind me every time I just happen to brake normally.

That being said, I have installed THIS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KXGVTHY (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KXGVTHY) under my license plate (I got the solid red version).   It flashes once, then is solid on.  It's VERY, VERY bright.  It's a strobe normally used for Ambulances/emergency vehicles.

So you are aware, what you are looking for is called a "brake light modulator." They make them for headlights as well.

Interesting, you use this as a replacement for your normal brake light? Or use both? The module I had flashed 3 times and then turned solid. How did you mount it, just screwed it plastic below the brake light?

I use it in addition to the stock brake light on all of my motorcycles. (R1200GS, FZ1, V-Strom 650, SV-650, KTM 990 SM-T, GS500e)
I use a bit of rubber "mud-flap" off a semi-truck, cut to the width of a licence plate.  You can find discarded mud-flaps on the side of most roads/highways (only gather where safe).  The rubber mud flap material dampens vibration, so the light doesn't wiggle like crazy  while riding down the road and is UV Stable, so you don't have to worry about cracking over the years.
I punch/drill 4 holes in it.  2 for the lower license plate mounting screws/holes and 2 for the light itself.
I'll try to put some photos up this weekend.
