Title: 1993 Bogging Down Unless Throttle is past 1/2
Post by: tuxthetitan on May 28, 2017, 03:13:11 PM
Hey everyone!  I've had my 93 GS500 for a few months and love riding it.  The past week a weird problem showed up.  I usually commute to work and it's about a 30 minute trip doing about 50mph average.  The bike started to bog down intermitantly unless I really yanked the throttle.  The problem sometimes goes away and sometimes it doesn't.  Here's what I know and have done.

It doesn't happen when the bike is cold, pulling on the throttle hard makes it stop during acceleration, If I stop and let the bike sit it will stop for a while, I installed a new fuel line, cleaned the carbs, they've been re jetted to account for the new air filter, the petcock is clean, I had to replace both coils recently because one stopped working, it seems to be leaking some fuel out of the left carb somewhere (haven't been able to determine)

Sticking float would be my first guess.
Cool.

I thought that too but I didn't see anything in the carb that would make it stick.  Will they stick by themselves?

If they're dirty they will.

Could also be a faulty needle/seat

Try using "make a gasket" on the rubber between the engine and the carb to help seal it. I've heard of it letting in hot air as the rubbers get older, and it effecting the idle.

Not sure if that makes sense in your situation.

You can use that make a gasket, but it will not let in "hot air" cos it will be too busy letting fuel out.
Better yet ... put a new float gasket if that's a problem, and use that gascacinch or my preferred purple gasket maker by permatex.
Cool.
