Title: Troubled shifting from 1st to 2nd
Post by: Clack47 on June 05, 2017, 06:12:04 PM
Long time lurker, first time poster. Apologies if this has been answered. I had no luck finding info.

Often now I'm having trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd. The neutral light will be on, but when I try to go to either gear it'll grind something fierce. I have a spare motor I've been taking apart to maybe find a possible source with no luck. On the motor in the bike I have the clutch assembly off, that's as far as I have gone. I'm wondering if the shift cylinder ((might be what is called?) The upper most shaft) will come out without splitting the case. And if I do need to split the case is there a good write up on the process?

Have you done a 3-point clutch adjustment?

Would be worth it before splitting the case.  If it's grinding I suspect the clutch isn't fully disengaging.

i'll give it a go this week, it may be out. I'm only sitting at just shy of 7kmi though, I'd thought that'd be okay. it's only an issure betreen 1st and 2nd though, i'd think if it were a clutch issue it'd be present through all gears? I've seen your pic before. Ben?

That's me.

There's more going on between 1st and 2nd than between any other gears, even if the clutch is in poor adjustment it might not mess with other gears.  But at any rate it's a simple adjustment and if it makes any difference it may lead us to a more specific answer.
