Hello guys, I own a gs500f (2004), and the stock tach looks horrible to me, so I bought a digital chinese replica :technical:
this one --> https://www.aliexpress.com/item/KOSO-Motorcycle-Odometer-Refit-LCD-meter-Adjustable-10inch-13inch-17inch-18inch-19inch-21inch-tires/32772426289.html?ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_2_10152_10065_10151_10068_10136_10137_10060_10155_10062_437_10154_10056_10055_10054_10059_303_100031_10099_10103_10102_10096_10109_10052_10053_10142_10107_10050_10051_10084_10083_10080_10082_10081_10110_519_10111_10176_10112_10113_10114_10182_10184_10078_10079_10073_10123_10189_142-10054_10113,searchweb201603_16,ppcSwitch_5&btsid=43683a6a-e386-402a-a4ef-0048f192f82a&algo_expid=ea533f79-7fc8-40b6-8972-0457c652cc89-1&algo_pvid=ea533f79-7fc8-40b6-8972-0457c652cc89
The thing is I have no experience/idea on how to do this (I thought it was an easier task)
I can figure more or less how to connect all the wires except for this one (dont know what is it for, maybe to get the speed? and where I have to install it...)

Any experiences installing this kind of tach would be appreciated ;)
I think it's speed sensor. The little magnet you epoxy onto your rim and the 'sensor' you mount someplace where it can read it. I had a vapor that was similar. The sensor dealio was on the rear swing arm and the little magnet on the rim.

thanks! before trying that, wouldn't it be possible to use the sensor from the bike?
GS has no sensor for the wheel. Its got a worm drive.
This is a hall effect sensor.
Cool.
Buddha.

Now I understand it!!!
Does anyone have this connector diagram for the 2004f? I can't find it on the manual :(

I was thinking in swapping the wires so I only have to connect the generic tach to the gs, and not having to cut anything
should be fairly straight forward. will be a good idea to photograph the connectors before removing the pins or make notes so that should you ever want to swap back you have an easy point of reference.
you get worm drive to digital convertors and you're in luck because koso do them unless you want to stick the magnet to the bobbins on the disk and make a bracket for the pickup sensor.
i think the koso use more than one ground wire if memory serves, make sure it has a very good ground! otherwise it'll kill itself or find it's own ground internally.
carlsalter.com has the early manual, i'd expect the later model bikes to be the same but i'm not 100%
good luck and i'm interested to see how it turns out :cheers:
