I recently got a Cortech Sport 2.0 Tailbag for my GS-F. I thought I had it all good until my first ride and my rear tire chewed up one of the straps.
Hindsight, sure, it really is no surprise that it happened, especially considering my "Clydesdale" physique. I had the two rearmost straps attached to the rear fender mount, running under the sub-frame and attaching to the other side of the tailbag.
Now that I have got my replacement strap(s) to replace the broken/burnt strap, I would like very much not to repeat the problem. My problem, however, is the straps and fender protector they give you are so long that I don't see how I could mount it to the fender mount and attach it to the same side of the tail-bag.
Any Suggestions?

Run the straps under the seat between the seat and the frame. Don't run them around the entire tail plastic.
IOW attach the tail bag to the seat itself, not to the bike+seat. Then put the seat on.
For me, this was so far from ideal that I made a rack to mount my tail bag on. As much as I dig the utility of the tail bag, the mounting options were completely inadequate.

Me too 72, on my 97 I made a rack mounted to the grab handle that could be removed by unbolting the 2 bolts that held the grab handle to the frame but I never unbolted it:

For my 02 I found a rack sold by Suzuki that mounted in place of the grab handle and put a 33 liter case on it and within a few days a friend riding behind me told me it was bouncing up and down so I added braces down to the fender and the rack and Givi case went most of the 100k miles the 02 went:

Ugh, that sucks! Sorry to hear about what happened with the straps :icon_sad:
I recently purchased a very cheap tail/seat bag from eBay. When I got it, I didn't like the straps. Too long and not elastic (just a preference of mine). I bought some black elastic and made my own straps for the bag that (as mr72 said) went under the seat, rather than around the whole tail of the bike. I wanted to still be able to remove the seat to hang my helmet if I ever wanted to, without having to remove the bag first. Thread with pics: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=71630.0

I like what you did with your tail bag -- I saw it when you posted in on your project thread. Unfortunately, my tail bag is a bit wider than the seat itself (24L capacity), so running the straps underneath the seat would not work as I think it would cause the bag to deform.
Ultimately I think a rack is the way to go, so more research will be had into that avenue later on.
PS. Awesome job on your build...I like your pegs and may end up doing the same when I get general maintenance stuff out of the way.
I ended up running the new strap from the fender mount to the same side on the tail bag. I had a lot of extra material from the padded protector that I had to tuck up under the tailbag (hopefully pinching it tight between the seat and the bag so it doesn't come loose and flap around).
For now this will do. I like the idea of a permanent rack mount, so I may have to put my engineering skills to good use and come up one as I am having a hard time finding a reasonably priced aftermarket rack.

Thank you for checking it out KGSB11!! The wiki was super helpful in regards to the pegs.
