Title: Rejetting... again and again and again...
Post by: jake42 on February 29, 2004, 06:56:29 PM
Hey all,

In the process of rejetitting, waiting for the vance and hines and K&N single pod to come in.

Well, I decided to go with the info from the 'indicative rejetting matrix" that is on Mike's Gs500 page and I dropped two #4 washers on hte needle.  I'm gonna put in 150's and 40's for the jets.  I  was just wondering how many of you guys run this setup and whether there is really a big differnce between 1 washer and 2 on the needle?

thanks

jake

150, 40, 2 #6 washers, 3 turns on the pilot mix screw, K&N pod, GSXR exhaust

You'll notice the diference if you start to get flat spots between 5500-6500 rpm.  This happened to me with the same set-up as you're proposing until I put in the second washer.  That pretty much took care of any hesitation on acceralation and now the bike revs freely.

BTW I recently looked at my plugs and they are a nice light brown with the 150 mains, 40 pilots, 2 washers and K&N pod filters.

Same setup except 1 washer. I dont know mine was fine with 1 #2 washer for each needle. ~ 1/2 mm thick.
Cool.

adam, srinath,

Right now I have  2 #4 washers in there, but it's no big deal to take them back out because the carbs are just sitting on my workbench.  I measured the thicknes of them and it's just a hair under 1mm for both washers..  Whaddya think :dunno:

1 mm each or 1mm for the 2 total. If its total I'd say leave it. If its 1 mm each... 1 washer should be sufficient. If you need to lift the needle 2mm... I suggest you go up a main jet or check the float level and see if its too low. 1mm total for each needle should be OK.
Cool.

one other question related to this whole process.  when you are setting the screws to three turns out do you guys loctite them with the semi perm stuff?  just curious, didnt' know if they had a tendency to work themselves out once you start tinkering with them.

Loctite?  Absolutely not!  Those screws are spring loaded and they don't move.  :nono:

Good question.  When I did mine, I didn't use any thing on the threads.  But I haven't gone and rechecked to see if they're still at 3 turns.

No loctite... well it hasn't fallen off and I have run it at 5 open... but what if you need to turn it in or out... loctite sort spoils that plan. Also the screw id very fine pitch threads... so does not move. You may fill the hole with silicone. but you do that only after setting it and being decided with the setting... else you'll be siliconing it everyday.
Cool.
